Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade New York City, NY

Clearly the most famous of Thanksgiving parades, the Macy’s Day parade truly outdoes itself year after year. Starting in 1924, this popular tradition has entertained generations of viewers. Whether you see this production in person or on your television, this parade is a must see. It runs for three hours each Thanksgiving morning, and Santa’s appearance at the end of the parade traditionally marks the start of the Christmas season.

6abc IKEA Thanksgiving Day Parade Philadelphia, PA

Currently called the 6abc Dunkin’ Donut Thanksgiving Day Parade, this parade calls itself the oldest in the country. Its first run was in 1920 and generations of faithful followers have been watching it since. Started by Gimbell’s department stores, this annual parade is full of floats, giant balloons, high school and college marching bands, and guest stars.

America’s Thanksgiving Parade Detroit, MI

Starting in 1924, the second oldest parade shows off its unique chops by displaying a giant papier-mâché head collection purchased by Italian artists in the city of Viareggio. This year the parade, which was started by J.L. Hudson Company department store, will boast over 300 heads.

McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Chicago, IL

Produced by the Chicago Festival Association, this city’s first holiday parade was held in 1934 to boost moral after the Great Depression. Since then, it has gone through many names and changes until it has reached its current name and status. In addition to the typical parade fair, Ronald McDonald graces viewers with his presence each year.

H-E-B Holiday Parade Houston, TX

Named by Travel Channel as one of the best Thanksgiving parades in the country, the H-E-B Holiday Parade is a source of pride for Texans. This year, the annual event will celebrate its 62nd year of family fun entertainment. Each year, an estimated 400,000 fans flock to downtown Houston to watch the floats and balloons pass by.
