Summer is winding down but in most places, the heat surely isn’t. After three months of high temperatures, it almost seems like the intense heat won’t ever let up. With temperatures breaking records across the country, it’s hard to imagine a place where you might actually have to throw on jeans and a sweater. Rest assured, there are some locations in the country that you can find some relief.
1. Finger Lakes, New York Located between Rochester, Ithaca, and Syracuse in Western New York, these eleven lakes have been a tourist destination and place of relaxation for decades. With temperatures currently in the high seventies, these lakes are perfect cool down getaways during the weekend.

2. Monterey, California – This stretch of California’s coastline has been an attraction in itself since we first arrived there. The quaint town of Monterey, nestled almost in the middle of the Pacific Coast Highway, draws thousands of tourists each year. It’s easy to see why with its gorgeous ocean views, world class aquarium and cool temperatures (highs in the high 60s).
3. Glacier National Park, Montana Bordering Canada, Glacier National Park is not an easy place to get to, but well worth the effort once you get there. Despite the fact that it’s situated so far north, Glacier averages highs in the 70s during this time of year. It’s also home to over 130 lakes, currently 25 active glaciers, and nearly its entire original animal species such as the grizzly bear, lynx, and wolverine.
4. Lake Geneva, Wisconsin This popular tourist destination has been a favorite cool off retreat for Midwesterners and others across the country alike. Offering everything from boating and swimming to zip lining, Lake Geneva is a hot spot to cool down or get away for a romantic rendezvous with scenic views and opportunities to relax and beat the heat.
5. Blowing Rock, North Carolina There many cool spots in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, and Blowing Rock certainly is one of them. Located in north western North Carolina, Blowing Rock averages in the high 70s this time of year attracting those from all over the south. It’s a popular place for artists and those who want to enjoy good family fun, plus galleries, farms and wineries to explore.
