Are you the type who sees travel as the opportunity to dance, socialize and drink in as many different countries as possible? If you also have a love of overland travel or just a bit of a car obsession, this could well be your dream event. The Balkan Rally starts on the 29th of July , costs just £135 to enter , and takes you on a barnstorming, relentless party. You’ll be swigging and swinging in eleven countries over fourteen days, and every single night will bring with it camaraderie, new scenes and a pre-booked party to get stuck in to.

We’ve already raved about The Mongol Rally on this blog, but as you’ve no doubt gathered, the Balkan Rally is a somewhat less serious as an event. You might not get to ride through Central Asian mountains in a one litre vehicle barely capable of climbing them, but after a few nights on this tour, you’ll probably be grateful for the relatively secure roads; they’re probably necessary after this kind of night on the tiles.

The tour starts in Dorset, in the west of the UK, where every member of The Balkan Rally gets free entry to the Underhill Festival, where the rally even has its own musical stage. Next stop is a quiet event in a Brugge pub, followed by a secret night in Amsterdam. Heading south, party cruisers can get involved in the Munich Beer Hall pub crawl, a lakeside barbecue in Lake Bled, Slovenia, and another hefty alcohol-themed tour in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. Zadar in Croatia involves a fortress party, while you’ll indulge in jazz in Dubrovnik and bungee jumping in Pag. Tirana’s edgy club scene, the chance to race a real Albanian rally stage and the Macedonian finish party come late enough in the day that you’ll probably be struggling to stay involved, but bring their own wild Eastern European rewards.

In fact, we do wonder about the driving aspect to such a manic undertaking, with so much booze involved. It’s hard to imagine more of a hectic, continent-covering party than this, though, and providing whatever clapped out old banger you end up traveling in makes it to the far end, it’ll be one you’ll no doubt never forget. If you’re from an EU country, you don’t even have to worry about visas. Just be sure to bring lots of pain killers and a couple of spare drivers sat in the back seat!
